SNOW FALL. The Avalanche at Tunnel Creek

A truly powerful story of a group of avi savvy skiers touring Stevens Pass, Washington last February.
Be safe so we can all play in the mountains for years to come!  Stay on top!

"Nipple Deep Powder" forecast.

I have never seen a forecast this intense for a mountain range before.  Mt Shasta sits 14,179' a.s.l. and is the second highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in California.  If we tried to ski/board this we would definitely have "tunnel" vision.
PURE RIDICULOUSNESS!

Whale Sharks

A bunch of us left the resort to go swim with the whale sharks.  The Captain and the Guide took us into open water where huge dorsal fins were peaking out of the water.  Thanks to TroubleMaker for volunteering us to jump in first with these monsters, I was scared shitless!  After a few minutes of my heart racing, I then had an amazing time chasing and swimming along side the 30'-40' sharks.

Lunker

After nearly a 2 lb. "LMB," Paul Brogan wasn't finished... Look at this 3 lb. (size 12) SKETCHERS he netted after Mike Bogusky grounded his boat, went apeshit, and threw it in the water! Amazing...

Freebie Tour of "the beast"

here's my geeky play by play -
930 start at Edgemont.
Skin to mid-station, take stage II Skyship.
1005 traverse to Anarchy trees, ski down to Canyon quad.
1035 at Coopers cabin then off the back to wide open glades, untouched 8(?)" on top of balls deep (crusty) base! ok, ok northeast style but good.
1100, skin back up to Snodon peak for spring corn in the sun. 1 north ridge, 1 canyon, 1 needles, ski back to truck - 1245 out.
no scanned passes.

my first contour video is unedited because I'm lazy and don't know how but from about 2:10 to 5:10 is better terrain.

there's another tree section below this, about the same length, that snoworries and I did on Sat too.

Ride On Alecs Barton

My friend Alecs died in an avalanche on Jan 28, 2012. My heart dropped and I was shaking when I read the news on facebook and UAC website.  He was a ripping Wasatch splitboarder who I knew from Solitude Mountain Resort.  The first time I met Alecs was at a Utah Jazz game and we shared countless backcountry stories.  From there on I saw him nearly everyday as he bumped chairs with a shit eatin grin on his face just knowing that he was in the mountains and riding the greatest snow on earth!  Solitude was his home but then he was asked to leave due to some politic bs at the resort.  I constantly ran into him in Salt Lake at outdoor concerts as well as on many backcountry peaks!  I always asked him about what peak he was going for a tour next   He died doing what he loved and was truly one of the purest snowboarders I've been friends with.  RIDE ON ALECS!!!

Fatal Avalanche

Even the smallest of avalanches can be fatal. I'm sure any one of us wouldn't have thought twice about skiing this short slope:
